Andy Collopy - Music Director, Accompanist
Andy Collopy is a freelance theatre musician and coach, based in New York City, who has been music directing professionally since the age of fifteen. Most recently, he music directed Angel On My Shoulder, a new musical that was a part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival, and Jesus Christ Superstar at Mount Carmel Theatre Company where he is the Resident Music Director.
In May, he traveled to Ireland as the music director of Judy: A Tribute at the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival. Andy’s New York credits also include Old Jews Telling Jokes at the Westside Theatre, where he is a substitute pianist, and the 26th Annual Easter Bonnet Competition at the Minskoff Theatre, for which he played keyboard and was an associate musical director on the opening number. He recently appeared as an on-screen pianist on NBC’s Smash.
A cum laude graduate of the Ithaca College School of Music, Andy music directed the Ithaca College Department of Theatre Arts productions of Coram Boy and Hello Again. Also in Ithaca, he has worked as a music director and pianist at such theaters as the Hangar Theatre, Cortland Repertory Theatre, and Running to Places Theatre Company. In 2011, Andy spent a season as an associate conductor at the College Light Opera Company, where he conducted performances of, among other shows, Man of La Mancha and Kiss Me, Kate.
Andy has also worked extensively in educational theatre, working with children ranging from preschool through high school. He has worked as a music director for the Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s Summer Stars program, Broadway Triple Threat - Philly, and the Cleveland JCC’s Playmakers Performing Arts Camp. He has also worked at The Hewitt School in Manhattan as the music director of their high school and middle school musicals.
As a singer, Andy has performed at such venues as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. While in school, he sang with the award winning contemporary a cappella group Ithacappella, with whom he appeared on American Idol and The Price is Right. Andy is also active as a composer and singer/songwriter, and holds a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
